Bill Geist is an Emmy Award-winning correspondent and commentator for CBS News, where he has contributed to the Sunday Morning program, 60 Minutes II, the Evening News and CBS Sports. He is The New York Times best-selling author of seven books, including: Way Off The Road, about his twenty years of travel for CBS, The Big Five-Oh! and Little League Confidential. Prior to joining CBS News, Geist was a reporter and columnist for The New York Times from 1980 to 1987, where he wrote the "About New York" column. Before that, he was a reporter and columnist for The Chicago Tribune from 1972-1980. Geist served as a combat photographer with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1969. His articles have appeared in a wide range of magazines from New York magazine to Chicago magazine; Forbes to Rolling Stone and Vogue to Esquire. |

Geist graduated from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. He received a Master's of Communications from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in 1971.
He was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois. He married his wife, Jody, in 1970. They have two children, Willie and Libby, and reside in New York City. Geist has won numerous awards for his work as a humorist, commentator and reporter in broadcast and print media, but he seems most proud of finishing a close third in the Illinois State Fair Bake-Off. | |||||||||||||||
