EMMITT SMITH

Emmitt Smith's name is synonymous with success in many realms....football, family, business and philanthropy. The leadership and dedication that led him to be the NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher is also found within his entrepreneurial and charitable spirits.

Emmitt has made an impact on the NFL that few players can match at any position or in any era. The winner of four NFL rushing titles, Emmitt also won three Super Bowl Titles, League MVP honors, the Super Bowl MVP Award and has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times. Emmitt is the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in 11 consecutive seasons.

Emmitt began his stellar football career at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, where he accumulated an outstanding 8,804 rushing yards and 106 touchdowns. Upon graduation, Emmitt was understandably one of the nation's most highly sought-after running backs in 1986. However, he chose to stay close to home and attended the University of Florida. An All-America and three-time All-SEC selection as a Gator, Emmitt established 58 school records in only three seasons. Emmitt left Florida before his senior season, but many of the records are still intact today.

Emmitt was drafted in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys in 1990. For the next 12 years, Smith led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships (1993, 1994 & 1996), was named the league's MVP (1993), earned Super Bowl XXVII MVP honors and was selected to eight Pro Bowl teams (1990-1995, 1998, 1999). On October 27, 2002, Smith surpassed Walter Payton's All-Time Leading Rushing Record of 16,726 yards to become the NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher.

In 2003, Emmitt volunteered to be released by the Cowboys and signed a two-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals. On February 3, 2005, three days before Super Bowl XXXIX, Emmitt announced his retirement after fifteen seasons in the NFL. Smith will be eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and will almost certainly be elected on his first ballott. In September 2005, during halftime of a Cowboys-Redskins game, Smith was inducted into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor with his longtime teammates Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

Fulfilling a vow to his mother that he would graduate from college, Emmitt returned to the University of Florida each NFL offseason to earn his Bachelor's degree in Public Recreation in 1996. His mother always told him that "football could end at any time, but your education will last a lifetime." Emmitt currently sponsors 17 underserved students in their pursuit for college educations.

Off the field, Emmitt is dedicated to helping change the lives of America's youth through initiatives such as The Open Doors Foundation, a not-for-profit supporting organization established to build well-rounded, motivated and empowered youth. He also works with children through several other organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Salvation Army, Ronald McDonald House Charities. As a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports his primary duty is to serve as inspiration for a more active lifestyle through personal and professional example.

Recognized as one of the top ten athletes in America regarding brand recognition and likeability, Emmitt has endorsed products for many companies including Reebok, Starter, Coke, Pepsi, Motorola and VISA. As a motivational speaker, Emmitt addresses the topics of leadership, teamwork, discipline and winning.
